Dutch Oven Gathering
Kings Mountain Dutch Oven Gathering – Spring 2012 Part 2
We arrived at Kings Mountain State Park for our Dutch Oven Gathering a little before 9:00 a.m. We were wondering what the weather was going to do? We expected the sun to come out and be on the warm side. Well, we were wrong, the day stayed overcast and cool which keep it comfortable for outdoor cooking.
Soon everyone began rolling in and the area around the shelter was a buzz with friends that we had not seen since the fall gathering. It’s enjoyable to see everyone and hear the sound of friendship as we put up our canopies and set up our cooking area. We were not there long when we started smelling food as some started making snacks before preparing thier main dishes.
We had 13 Dutch Oven Cooks preparing 18 black pots. Some of the recipes included Coca Cola Chicken, Cilantro Lime Pork Tacos, Black Beans, Sausage and Chicken Gumbo, Southwest Venison Pie, Pork Chops with Apple Stuffing along with many more. We cannot forget the desserts: Peach Cobbler, Blueberry Peach Cobbler, Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake, Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings (yum) and a Butterscotch Rum Bunt Cake.
Along with the cooks, family and friends we had more than 30 folks for a fun afternoon in the park. We had a slow steady stream of campers coming to see what was going on and all saying the same thing “We could smell the food, so we came to see what you were doing”. We were very happen to have them.
Our day was made when the park manager stopped by, he was excited to see what we were doing and asked if we would be interested in doing this on a semi-annual basis. He mentioned that he could help promote our group and provide a shelter which in turn helps him fill the campground. I think that is a Win Win situation for all.
Josh made a video of the Dutch Oven Gathering and I want to thank him for that. I want to thank Penny for more amazing pictures too. I want to put a BIG SHOUT OUT to everyone that came, ya’ll are the best.
Here’s a link to more info about about group, Enjoy.

Kings Mountain Dutch Oven Gathering – Spring 2012
Spring will be here before we know it. It has been mild, so far, this winter in the Carolina’s. As you might know, we have been accepted by the International Dutch Oven Society as the local chapter for the Charlotte, NC area. Our chapter is called the Southeast Camper Dutch Oven Group.
We will host our first Dutch Oven Gathering as a chapter on April 28, 2012 at Kings Mountain State Park in South Carolina.
The park is located six miles south on Route 161 off Interstate I-85, Exit 8. The Dutch Oven Gathering will be at Shelter No 1. This shelter has a fireplace along with restrooms and parking nearby. Please bring a log or two for the community fire.
We will gathering about 9 am, when the park opens for a Meet ‘N’ Greet. If you wish to cook breakfast and / or lunch would be great.
This is NOT a competition, but a chance to show off (just a little) and trade recipes. Bring your favorite recipes and equipment for preparing your meal. We will share Good Food and Recipes at the gathering with our new friends for a day of outdoor fun.
I hope you can find the time and join us. Please visit our forum for more details about our First Southeast Camper Dutch Oven Gathering. We hope to make this an anual event to be held on the last Saturday in April.
All are Welcome, Stop by and say “Hello”. We look forward to meeting you
