Mile High Dutch Oven Gathering 2011
We had a great time at the Mile High Dutch Oven Gathering (always the last Saturday in July). We started out with a little rain on Friday, but it cleared up to make one of the nicest weekends we’ve seen all summer. It was cool compared to the Foothills and Piedmont of North Carolina. We got to see some old friends and make some new ones. We had some experienced cooks visting us for the first time along with beginners. Wow!, It was fun!
We gathered Saturday morning for breakfast which always turns out to be a major feast. There was something for everyone. The mountain air will help anyone’s appetite.
We had a good turnout for the Mile High Dutch Oven Gathering. For the evening dinner we had 26 cooks and 43 black pots. The variety of dishes prepared was phenomenal. If you enjoy outdoor camp cooking, this was an experience you’ll never forget.
If you enjoy grilling or cooking out, then a dutch oven is for you. Any meal prepared in the kitchen can be made at the camp site in a dutch oven. Some of the dishes that were prepared at the dinner included: Beef Tenderloin with Stuffing, Hawaiian Ham with Pineapple, Sweet and Sour Meatball, Yeast Rolls, Pasta, Thai Curry Couscous and more.
Check your local area for a Dutch Oven Gathering. Experienced cooks and beginners along with guest are always welcome. It’s not all about the food, it’s about fellowship and the teaching of an art that built this country. Keep your cast iron pots clean and full of food.
Hope to see ya’ll real soon.
Dan
